2027 Prep Enrolments & Tours

The Department of Education has released the statewide Foundation (Prep) enrolment timeline for the 2027 school year. The timeline advises families when and how to enrol their child into Foundation (Prep) at a Victorian government primary school, including Canterbury Primary School.

All government primary schools will follow the timeline in 2026 to support enrolments for the 2027 school year. You can find information and resources about the timeline at: Enrolling in Foundation (Prep).

You will be able to apply to enrol your child in Prep 2027 at Canterbury Primary School from 20 April 2026.

What you need to do:

1. Contact our school to book a school tour or to learn more about our school and the enrolment application process. School tours for families of children commencing in 2027 will be conducted in Term 1 and 2, 2026. We will take bookings for 2027 tours after the 16th February 2026. Please note that we are not holding tours for 2027 enrolments at this time.
2. Enrol online, via VicStudents.
   VicStudents is available for students who are enrolling in a Victorian Government School for the first time. This includes Prep enrolments for 2027. Please note that as part of this process, you are required to submit 100 points worth of documentation to support a Residential Address Check.
3. Finalise and submit the enrolment application by Friday 31 July 2026.
4. You will be notified of the outcome of your application between Monday 3 August and Friday 14 August 2026. If you receive an enrolment offer, you should contact our school to accept the offer by Friday 28 August 2026.
5. Take part in enrolment information and transition sessions during Term 4, 2026.

Enrolment applications submitted after 31 July 2026 will be processed by our school as they are received, in accordance with the department’s Placement Policy.

2026 & 2027 Prep Enrolments - Enrolment Restriction at CPS

Our school has an enrolment restriction under section 2.2.16 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic). Approved entry criteria for our school for the 2026 or 2027 school year are:

• students who live within the school zone
• students with a sibling attending the school at the same time
• students seeking enrolment on compassionate grounds, in exceptional circumstances.

Students seeking enrolment in Prep must meet one of the above criteria to be eligible for enrolment in 2026 or 2027. Students seeking enrolment in other year levels continue to be subject to the Placement Policy.

The department will review this enrolment restriction yearly and provide updated advice as necessary for the subsequent school year.
