Creativity on the Go!

22-Apr-2019

Year One and Two students commenced the ‘On the Go-Go’ project with a series of Creativity Learning workshops focusing on vehicles, roads, and transport. Students investigated vehicle shapes and structures and explored the types of transport used in our community.

Students participated with enthusiasm and each week their investigations grew broader, allowing them to explore tasks such as: constructing spinners, model planes, submarines, parachutes, helicopters, train tracks, roads and cities using either recycled materials or construction kits. This student-led exploration highlighted the passion sparked for a wide range of vehicles that we see in our community. This extended to emergency vehicles and the jobs of individuals in these fields. Students could be seen in high visibility vests or white jackets attending to ‘injured’ classmates or playing the role of police officers by taking fingerprints and investigating the crime. Students created town maps, dismantled bikes and interacted with cement mixers to discover new interests. Each week students illustrated their enjoyment during this learning through positive reflections and provided feedback to inform future learning areas.

Students recently visited the Kew Traffic School and put their new found knowledge into action. They identified road signs, roundabouts, line markings, and traffic signals whilst actively practicing to cross roads safely and ride their bikes around the mini-city.

This term culminated with students making their own mini-city at C.P.S, which included roads and rail systems. Students participated in mixed year-level workshops to create a model of their chosen vehicle of interest. This project allowed students to broaden their knowledge and understanding of transport in our community and promote confidence in all students to explain the necessity for road rules and their role in keeping all of our community safe.
